Peshawar Zalmi Dominate Lahore Qalandars: Kusal Mendis Shines in PSL 2026

Peshawar Zalmi Extend Winning Streak

Peshawar Zalmi continue to look like the team to beat in PSL 2026. In their latest outing, they dismantled the Lahore Qalandars by 76 runs, a victory that reinforces their status at the summit of the points table. This comprehensive performance was built on the foundation of a dominant batting display led by Kusal Mendis and capped off by a ruthless bowling effort that saw the Qalandars bowled out for just 97.

The Mendis-Babar Partnership

Following their record-breaking 191-run stand in the previous game, the duo of Babar Azam and Kusal Mendis once again proved to be the cornerstone of the Zalmi batting lineup. Despite an early loss of Mohammad Haris, which forced the pair together inside the powerplay, they remained composed and tactical.

Kusal Mendis was the clear aggressor throughout the partnership, taking the attack to the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Ubaid Shah. While the scoring rate wasn’t quite as blistering as their previous outing, the pair managed a crucial 109-run stand. Kusal finished with an impressive 74 off 48 balls, featuring five boundaries and four sixes. Sixty-five of those runs came while batting alongside his captain.

Babar Azam’s Resilience

Babar Azam provided the necessary stability, contributing 43 runs off 40 balls before falling just short of a consecutive half-century. His innings was marked by bravery; he faced a frightening bouncer from Ubaid Shah that struck him on the neck. After a brief scare and on-field attention from the physio, Babar showed his trademark grit by continuing his innings, proving vital to the team’s total of 173 for 7.

Qalandars Fight Back with the Ball

While the Zalmi top order flourished, the middle order struggled to capitalize on the platform provided. The Lahore Qalandars displayed exceptional death bowling, with Shaheen Shah Afridi (3-22), Mustafizur Rahman (2-30), and Ubaid Shah pulling things back significantly. Excluding a quick-fire 21 off 10 balls from Michael Bracewell, the Zalmi lower order faltered, managing only 33 runs in the final four overs while losing five wickets in the process.

A Bowling Masterclass

Defending 174, the Peshawar Zalmi bowlers were relentless. The Qalandars’ chase never truly gained momentum, as they were skittled out for 97 runs. The bowling attack was a collective effort, stifling the Lahore batting order from the first over. Michael Bracewell starred with 3-18, while Sufiyan Muqeem claimed 3-21 to keep the pressure on. Nahid Rana also chipped in with a tidy 2-15 to ensure there was no way back for the Qalandars.

Looking Ahead

This result leaves the Lahore Qalandars with plenty to contemplate as they look to recover their form in the tournament. For Peshawar Zalmi, however, the momentum is firmly in their favor. With their captain in form and their bowlers performing as a cohesive unit, they have firmly established themselves as the team to beat in PSL 2026. Stay tuned for further updates as the tournament progresses.
