Tamim Iqbal Joins Prayer Gathering for Ailing BNP Leader Mirza Abbas
A Sports Community Unites in Prayer for Mirza Abbas
In a touching display of solidarity, the Bangladesh sports fraternity has come together to offer support for veteran BNP leader and Dhaka-8 Member of Parliament, Mirza Abbas. With the political figure currently battling serious health challenges, the atmosphere remains one of profound concern and hopeful anticipation for his recovery.
From Dhaka to Singapore: A Fight for Health
Mirza Abbas, a figure deeply intertwined with the sporting landscape of Bangladesh, initially sought medical care at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Given the gravity of his condition, he was subsequently airlifted to Singapore via air ambulance and is now receiving specialized treatment at the Singapore General Hospital.
Tamim Iqbal Leads the Call for Support
Recognizing his significant contributions to sports and his tenure as a former sports minister, the Mohammedan Sporting Club organized a heartfelt prayer gathering. Among the notable figures in attendance was legendary former Bangladesh captain, Tamim Iqbal.
Reflecting on the importance of the occasion, Tamim shared a deeply personal perspective: “Look, I didn’t really get many chances to meet him in my life. He came to my wedding once, and I met him one or two times. But I do know that he has been involved with Mohammedan, with sports, and he also served as sports minister. Since he is unwell, Mohammedan arranged this prayer gathering. I felt it was important for me to be here.”
Tamim added, “I’m sure everyone connected to sports is hoping for his quick recovery. Our prayers are with him and his family.”
A Moment of Reflection for Tamim
The event also served as a poignant reminder of the fragility of health within the sporting world. Tamim Iqbal himself has been sidelined from competitive cricket since March 2025. While representing Mohammedan in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), the star batter suffered a heart attack, an incident that has kept him away from the pitch ever since. As the nation prays for Mirza Abbas, fans across the country continue to hold both the veteran politician and their cricketing icon in their thoughts.
