Ramiz Raja Slams Controversial Salman Agha Run-Out: ‘Not How Cricket Should Be Played’
A Storm of Controversy: Salman Agha’s Dismissal Rocks the Cricket World
The intensity of the Bangladesh vs. Pakistan series has reached a boiling point. An unusual and contentious run-out involving Pakistan batter Salman Ali Agha and Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has ignited a fierce debate, leaving fans and pundits questioning the sportsmanship displayed on the field at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The Incident That Sparked the Fire
Midway through the second ODI, the game turned on a moment of confusion. After Mohammad Rizwan pushed a legitimate delivery from Miraz back down the pitch, the ball rolled toward the non-striker’s end. In a gesture of perceived courtesy, Salman Agha stepped out of his crease to pick up the ball and return it to the bowler. In a split second, Miraz grabbed the ball, whipped it into the stumps, and appealed. The third umpire had no choice but to rule it a legal dismissal, but the cricketing world remains divided.
Ramiz Raja: ‘This Goes Against the Spirit of Sportsmanship’
Former Pakistan captain and renowned commentator Ramiz Raja did not mince his words when addressing the incident on his YouTube channel. He believes the dismissal significantly hindered Pakistan’s momentum, potentially costing them 30 to 40 valuable runs.
“According to the rules, he was out. But he was picking the ball up. That appeal could have been withdrawn,” Ramiz stated. He drew a sharp parallel to the infamous 2023 World Cup incident where Bangladesh timed out Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews, adding, “In modern-day cricket, players don’t really prioritize sportsmanship. They end up doing something that leaves a mark on cricket, which is known as the gentleman’s game.”
