Shake-up at BCB: Director Amzad Hossain Resigns After Committee Removal

A Major Shift at the Helm: Amzad Hossain Departs from the BCB

The corridors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are echoing with change today. In a move that has sent ripples through the cricketing fraternity, Amzad Hossain has officially stepped down from his position as a director of the board. This high-profile exit comes less than 24 hours after he was removed from his pivotal role as the chairman of the board’s Media Committee.

The Timeline of the Transition

The dominoes began to fall on March 22, when the BCB issued an official press release announcing a leadership shift within the Media and Communications Committee. Mokhsedul Kamal, who previously served as the vice-chairman, was elevated to the role of chairman, effectively replacing Hossain. By the very next day, March 23, Amzad Hossain tendered his resignation as a BCB director.

In His Own Words: Why the Sudden Exit?

Speaking to the media, Hossain remained professional, citing personal reasons for his departure while acknowledging the board’s constitutional right to restructure its committees. “When the board thinks my service may not be required, I felt it was the right time to take this decision,” he explained.

Hossain also clarified his absence during the recent decision-making process, noting that he had been in Saudi Arabia performing Umrah. “For the last 10 days, I wasn’t in contact with anyone… naturally, I stayed away from work matters. So I don’t know exactly what happened,” he added.

A Legacy of Service

Reflecting on his tenure, which lasted approximately six months as the head of the Media Committee, Hossain expressed pride in his contributions:

  • Elected as a BCB director from the club category.
  • Served as the primary voice of the board in regular press briefings.
  • Maintained that he faced no personal difficulties during his time in office.

“It was an honor to serve Bangladesh cricket,” he stated, leaving behind a final piece of advice for the board: “I hope the board performs well and moves forward. You should highlight the good work too, not only criticism.”

The Changing Landscape of the Board

Hossain’s departure marks a significant reduction in the board’s personnel. Following the earlier resignation of Ishtiaque Sadeque, the number of sitting BCB directors has now dropped to 23. As the board navigates this transitional period, fans and stakeholders alike remain eager to see how the leadership will stabilize moving forward.
