IPL 2026: CSK vs GT Match Venues Swapped Due to Gujarat Elections

Schedule Shake-up: CSK and GT Venue Swap in IPL 2026

In a surprising update to the tournament calendar, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced that the venues for the two scheduled contests between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) for the 2026 season have been swapped. This adjustment comes as the league navigates local administrative constraints to ensure the smooth conduct of the matches.

The New Match Details

Originally, the first encounter between these two heavyweights was slated for April 26 in Ahmedabad, starting at 3:30 PM. The second match was scheduled for May 21 in Chennai, with a 7:30 PM start. However, following the official announcement, the dates and locations have been flipped:

  • April 26: Now to be held in Chennai at 3:30 PM.
  • May 21: Now to be held in Ahmedabad at 7:30 PM.

The Reason Behind the Change

According to an official release from the IPL, the venue swap was necessitated by the municipal corporation elections taking place in Ahmedabad and other regions of Gujarat on April 26. Given the logistical challenges and security requirements associated with local elections, moving the match to Chennai ensures that the game can proceed without disruption, providing a better experience for both the players and the fans.

Current Form and Head-to-Head History

As the tournament progresses, both teams find themselves in very different positions on the points table. The Gujarat Titans are currently sitting in fifth place, holding a balanced record of two wins and two losses from their first four matches. In contrast, the Chennai Super Kings are struggling to find their rhythm, languishing in ninth place with only one victory in four games.

Despite the current disparity in form, the historical rivalry between the two sides remains incredibly tight. In their eight previous meetings in the IPL, CSK and GT have an even 4-4 record. Their most recent encounter in IPL 2025 saw the Chennai Super Kings dominate the clash, securing a convincing 63-run victory over the Titans in Ahmedabad.

What’s Next for CSK and GT?

Both teams are now preparing for their next challenge, and interestingly, both are set to face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The paths to these fixtures differ slightly in location:

  • Chennai Super Kings will host KKR on Tuesday.
  • Gujarat Titans will take on KKR in Ahmedabad on April 17.

While the schedule change might present a minor logistical hurdle, it adds another layer of intrigue to the clash between these two sides. CSK will be eager to leverage their home advantage in April to climb up the points table, while GT will look to maintain their mid-table stability ahead of their trip to Chennai and subsequent return to Ahmedabad in May.
