A Historic Beginning for Praful Hinge
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen its fair share of fairytale debuts, but few are as explosive as that of Praful Hinge. Given the daunting task of opening the bowling for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against the formidable Rajasthan Royals (RR), the 24-year-old right-arm quick was an unknown entity to most. However, he did the unthinkable, delivering a triple-wicket over that sent shockwaves through the league.
The Over That Changed Everything
Facing an intimidating opening pair of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Hinge entered the fray with zero nerves. He struck with his very first ball, removing the in-form Sooryavanshi, and continued his onslaught. By the end of the over, he had claimed the wickets of Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, becoming the first bowler in IPL history to take three wickets in the first over of an innings.
Hinge didn’t stop there. In his second over, he claimed the wicket of the Rajasthan Royals captain, Riyan Parag, further dismantling the RR batting order. He finished his first spell with an incredible set of figures: 3-0-18-4, including 13 dot balls, proving that he has the arrival of a serious talent in the league.
Manifesting Success
After being named Player of the Match, Hinge was candid about his confidence. “I had manifested this,” he revealed, admitting that he had written down his goals for the previous year, which turned where he had envisioned taking four or five wickets in his first match. “I wanted to dominate as much as possible in the powerplay,” he added, emphasizing his determination to dominate the game.
His strategy was specifically targeted. Hinge revealed that he had told people he would dismiss Sooryavanshi with a bouncer on the first ball, and he executed the plan perfectly. He credited much of his success to bowling coach Varun Aaron, who noting that the coach’s guidance helped him shape his performance.
The Journey from Novice to Pro
Praful Hinge’s rise is a cinematic story of passion. He started playing cricket at the age of 13, admitting that he didn’t initially know what leather ball cricket was. Driven by a vontade to learn, he asked his father to enroll him in a club, which served as the catalyst for his career. This humility and mental strength have now propelled him to the IPL stage.
A Solid Foundation in Domestic Cricket
Before this explosive debut, Hinge’s experience was limited. This was only his second T20 match in senior cricket. His domestic pedigree is established through his first-class matches for Vidarbha, making his debut in October 2024. In the last Ranji Trophy, he was a regular fixture, picking up 16 wickets in 11 innings at an average of 26.37. He also showed flashes of brilliance in the T20 format, specifically in the inaugural Vidarbha Pro T20 League, where he was a vital contributor to the Neco Master Blasters’ title charge.
Statistically, Hinge has overall played 10 first-class matches for 27 wickets and six List A games for five wickets, showing a steady growth in the trajectory of his ascent.
Inspirations and Style
Hinge is a nippy pace bowler who utilizes his lanky frame to effectively extract bounce and pace. He has openly mentioned that Pat Cummins, the SRH captain, is his idol, and he has long dreamt of sharing a dressing room with him. Additionally, he has been inspired by his Vidarbha senior, Umesh Yadav, with whom he opened the bowling on his T20 debut.
With such a historic debut, expectations will now be higher, but Praful Hinge has announced his arrival in the most spectacular way possible.
